An announcement

Hello everybody! First, an apology for (once again) neglecting this place. Second, I wanted to give you guys a quick update about some Important Things pertaining to His Own Good Sword. I’d intended to wait a bit later before making this announcement, but things have progressed a little more quickly than I expected, so I’m making it now, just to forestall any questions.

I’ve decided to terminate my contract with the previous publisher of His Own Good Sword. What this means, first and foremost, is that the book will soon be unavailable for purchase, if it isn’t already His Own Good Sword(I believe the listing has already been removed from the Barnes & Noble site, and the Kindle edition is no longer available from Amazon). I apologize for any trauma this may have caused, but don’t despair just yet: I am releasing a new, self-published edition on May 7th. The new version has been reedited to fix some issues present in the first edition; it is, I think, a much stronger book. It has a shiny new cover, as you can see. What’s more, it includes—in response to popular demand—a Map (woo!) and a Character Guide (woo!). And right now you can enter to win a softcover copy of the new edition from Goodreads.

Also worth mentioning: His Own Good Sword has received two lovely new reviews in the past week, so check those out if you haven’t already! Angela Goff (@angela_goff) reviewed it on her blog Anonymous Legacy, and Daniel Swensen (@surlymuse) reviewed it on Goodreads.

Still really love the cover ;) So did you get to put in the stuff you weren’t able to before in your edit?

Thanks! I’m rather happy with it myself. ;) As for the edits… nothing really drastic has changed, but some scenes have been fleshed out that I think needed fleshed out (particularly towards the end), and some clunky passages have been reworked. And there is one scene that I reverted back to my original version. :-) All in all I do think it makes for a better book, if the changes are mostly quibbling ones.

So what does this mean for the rest of the series?

I’ll be self-publishing it. Right now (if I can get my act together) I’m planning to release the second book in December.

Amanda - this is a brave and, I think, good move (though I know little of the press you were with). I bought the original version of His Own Good Sword on Kindle and it’s on my to-read list, but I will also buy the new version since it sound like it’s improved. Also, I REALLY like the new cover over the older one!

Thanks so much, Joseph! I’m excited about self-publishing, though I still hope to go the traditional route with my new (unrelated) WIP. :) Glad you like the cover! Don’t feel obligated to buy a new copy… I can make sure you get one, if you’d like! I really don’t want people to have to buy it twice. :(

Trust me, it’s no problem for me to buy another copy to help a fellow author!

          I appreciate it! :)

Entered to win! Best of luck in this new direction… I’m excited about the sequel. :)

Thanks, Alyssa! I appreciate it. ;)

Wow, that’s big stuff but sounds really good! I look forward to seeing the new version, since I really enjoyed the other. :) And the cover looks great!

      Thank you! :D

Really exciting, can’t wait until it comes out. And the new cover art looks ten times better.

Thanks! I’m glad everyone likes the cover. I think it captures the pseudo-Romano-Celtic flavor of the story a little better. :)
